Sendai Tanabata Festival

Category

The Sendai Tanabata Festival, held annually from August 6th to the 8th, is the biggest tanabata celebration in Japan. Held in the northeastern city of Sendai, it celebrates the tanabata folklore of Orihime and Hikoboshi (Vega and Altair) and brings in the summer spirit. This festival is particularly well known for its extravagant, vibrant streamers decorated throughout the city center. Be sure to get to Sendai a night before the festivities begin, so you don’t miss out the fireworks display on the 5th.
