The Home of a Diplomat
The Home of a Diplomat
"The Home of a Diplomat" is a beautiful western-building located in the "Yamate Italian Garden" in Yokohama City. The building was designed by architect J.M. Gardiner in 1910 for the purpose of residence of the Diplomat of Meiji government, Sadatsuchi Uchida. Now it is designated as an important cultural property of Japan. Although the building was first built in Nanpeidai (Shibuya, Tokyo), in 1997, it was relocated and reconstructed to Yokohama City, to which it was donated. It is now opened to public.
It is a two-story building, with the characteristics of the American Victorian penthouse. It is detailly built with chic colors, such as brown and beige, with clapboard walls and natural slate roofs, making it look gorgeous. Inside the house is full of profound Nouveau decorations which was preserved from the past. In each exhibition room, it displays the characteristics of the building and the documents of the Diplomat’s livelihood.
The building has an annex with a cafe called "Bluff Garden Cafe", in which you can take a rest and enjoy a cup of tea. Why not spend a luxury time here while overlooking a view of Minato Mirai?
