Ozuwashi
Ozuwashi
Ozuwashi", located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. This store has a proud history of over 360 years, and has been selling paper products in this area since the Edo period. The banner with the store's name contains a impressionistic triangle with the character "久" inside. The triangle represents a fish scale, a symbol meant to "ward off fire, sickness, and natural disaster", while the "久" character possesses the meaning of "eternity". Between the first and third floors, you can find exhibits and experiences revolving around Japanese paper. The first floor contains a handmade Japanese paper studio, as well as an arrangement of Japanese paper and related items brought from all over Japan. On the second floor, the "Ozu Gallery", "Ozu Cultural Classroom", and "Resting Room" are set up, providing an opportunity for cultural exchange through Japanese paper.
Finally, on the third floor, not only is there an "Ozu Archive" for understanding Ozuwashi's history, but also the "Ozuwashi Shouran", a Japanese paper exhibition room. Here, you can carefully learn more about the regional aspects of Japanese paper, the development of Japanese paper, and how Japanese paper is made.
