Sanmachi Street
Sanmachi Street
Sanmachi Street, the most retro spot in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. This area is also known as "Little Kyoto" because of the preservation of the town construction from the Edo period. With Hida District as the first, Sanmachi street is filled with famous restaurants, so trying out these foods is a must. For example, at the restaurant, Sakaguchiya, you can try the wagyu beef sushi made with locally bred meat and the stew. At Jinno Dango, you can get a taste of traditional Japanese sweets for just 70 yen a stick. If you would like to rest your feet, try riding the rickshaws. The rickshaws of Takayama are known as the originators of rickshaws, and they teach customers about Takayama's history while taking you around the city. Nakabashi bridge, a bridge that crosses over Miyagawa river, is located nearby Sanmachi Street. The combination with the bright, red bridge and the cherry blossoms truly shows the authentic Japanese scenery.
