Shiroyone Senmaida
Shiroyone Senmaida
Shiroyone Senmaida is a series of 1,004 small rice paddy fields in northern Ishikawa. These terraced rice fields, called “tanada”, are created to utilize the slopes on mountains and valleys. The Shiroyone Senmaida rice fields were the first to be designated as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System. The rice fields are beautiful throughout the year: they are a vibrant green in the summer, a crisp golden tone in the autumn and covered in snow in the winter. In the spring, water is pulled onto the rice fields, creating a mirror-like effect. Between October and March, the rice fields are lit up. About 25,000 pink and gold light bulbs illuminate the fields.
