Mitsukejima Island
Mitsukejima Island
Mitsukejima Island locates off the coast of Ishikawa prefecture’s northernmost city, Suzu. This island is said to be the first piece of land that the monk Kukai saw, when coming from China. It is sometimes referred to as Battleship Island because of its shape. When the tides are low, you can walk to Mitsukejima Island via the stone steps on the ocean. The island is a lot bigger than it seems from afar. From Mitsukejima Island to nearby Koiji Coast is about a 3-kilometer beach, called Enmusu Beach, which is said to bring luck in matchmaking. There, you can ring the “bell of happiness” that is supposed to bring happiness to those who visit and ring it.
