Eko-in Temple
Eko-in Temple
Eko-in temple was built in 1657, after a giant fire engulfed the Sumida area in flames. It is said that about 60 percent of the land was completely destroyed by the fire, with over 100,000 people losing their lives. This temple was built to revere the many lives taken by the fire, since many of the victims were unknown or unnamed on public records. Nowadays, the temple holds a similar concept, as it is open to enshrine anyone or any animal, regardless of belief or background. With a beautiful interior and many historical artifacts as well, this temple is also a visual gem.
