Northern Wall Street (Otaru)
Northern Wall Street, in Otaru, Hokkaido, is an area that once thrived economically. It was where the Bank of Japan’s Otaru branch was, and many trading companies and such were also built. Unfortunately, much of the buildings have been empty since the Showa period (1926 - 1989), but their retro exteriors still remain. One particular building is now used as a restaurant, with the inside still retaining its retro atmosphere. The building that was once the Bank of Japan’s Otaru branch is now a museum, where you can learn about the history of Otaru. There are many other spots to visit in Otaru within walking distance, such as the Otaru Canal and the Otaru Music Box Museum.
