Jomon Period-style house at Sannai-Maruyama Site

Sannai-Maruyama Site

Sannai Maruyama Site is an archaeological site in Aomori. It is the ruins of a Jomon Period (ca. 14,000BC – 300BC) village, and is the largest of its kind in Japan. In 2000, the site was designated as a Special National Historical Site of Japan. Homes, roads, cemeteries and more were found here, helping us understand everyday life during the Jomon Period. Throughout the year, unique events are held at Sannai Maruyama Site. Festivals are held every season, and educational tours of the diggings sites are held frequently.
