The Ishikawa Kutaniyaki Art Museum
The Ishikawa Kutaniyaki Art Museum
“The Kutaniyaki Art Museum” is located in Kaga, a city in the southwestern region of Ishikawa prefecture. It is the only museum in Japan that specializes in showcasing the traditional Kutaniyaki porcelain representative of Ishikawa prefecture. Born in the old Kutani village, the Kutaniyaki style is known for its vivid colors and bold designs. It is said that production began in the Edo period under the direction of Toshiharu MAEDA, the first lord of the Daishoji clan. The museum’s first floor showcases masterpieces of the Kutaniyaki style made over a span of 360 years. In addition to the Aote Room, Iroe/Gosai Room, and Akae/Kinran Room permanent exhibitions, there are also special exhibitions with various themes. On the second floor are the tea ceremony room “Gosaian”, the museum shop, and the café “Sabo Kokutani.” Visitors may enjoy tea ceremonies, viewing parties, galleries showcasing the works of contemporary artists, and other events.
