Yosegi Specialty Shop Hakone Maruyama Inc.

Hakone Maruyama Inc. can be found in Hakone, a town in the Ashigarashimo District of Kanagawa prefecture. This specialty shop makes and sells products of the Yosegi Zaiku traditional craft that has been passed down in the Hakone and Odawara areas. Workshops are also held so that visitors can experience the craft for themselves.
Items made by Yosegi Zaiku craftsmen are lined on the shelves inside the store, and tourists come every day to see them.
At the back of the store, visitors can watch the craftsmen at work and learn about the tricks behind the “secret box” and other puzzle boxes. Workshop participants can get the whole secret box experience, from putting the box pieces together to waxing the finished box to make it shine.
