Hakone Lake Ashino Narukawa Art Museum
Hakone Lake Ashino Narukawa Art Museum is located in Hakone-machi in Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is one of the few museums in Japan that is dedicated to Japanese-style paintings. The museum was opened in 1988, and houses 4,000 modern Japanese-style paintings. One characteristic of the museum is that you can get close to exhibited works and you can see up close the luster and subtle touches that are unique to Japanese-style paintings. The museum takes pride in the view from the observation deck, which has a superb view of Torii (shrine gate) of Peace of Hakone Shrine floating in Lake Ashino and Mount Fuji behind the mountains. The onsite tea lounge “Kisetsu-hu (seasonal wind)” also has a view of nature that varies from season to season, and there you can spend an elegant time while enjoying seasonal sweets.
