Sapporo Clock Tower
Sapporo Clock Tower
The Sapporo Clock Tower locates in central Sapporo, and is just a five-minute walk from Odori Park. It is designated as a national important cultural property. The tower was built as a part of the drill hall of the former Sapporo Agricultural University in 1878. Its architecture is representative of that of the early Meiji period (1868 – 1912). Inside the tower, you can find retro-style chairs. The clock is still moving, and rings every hour. It is powered by motive power, and does not rely on electricity. On the second floor of the clock tower, there are displays of documents from the Sapporo Agricultural University and from olden day Hokkaido. At the souvenir shop on the first floor, you can buy Tokke-kun goods. Tokke-kun is the official character of the Sapporo Clock Tower.
