Sapporo Snow Festival
Sapporo Snow Festival
The Sapporo Snow Festival is held annually in early February in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It began in 1950 to help liven up Sapporo after the war. There are three venues of the festival: Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome. Odori Park is the festival’s main venue. This is where the famous snow sculpture competition is held. At the Susukino venue, ice sculptures are displayed throughout the streets. The Tsudome venue is great for families, as it has play equipment and places to rest. Make sure to dress warmly in layers, since winters in Sapporo can get as cold as -10 degrees Celsius.
