Lake Ashi during the winter

Ashinoko Onsen is located in a spot with wonderful views of Mt Fuji in the town of Hakone in western Kanagawa prefecture. Roughly 725 meters above sea level, the Ashinoko Onsen area spreads out over 1.5 kilometers from the edge of Lake Ashi. It is the second newest of the 17 hot springs of Hakone. In 2006, the jinx that no hot springs well up in view of Mt. Fuji was broken when a hot spring was dug out. Amazing views of Lake Ashi and the surrounding landscape can be seen while bathing here. The spring water is of the simple sulfur type, which gives the onsen a distinct sulfuric smell. The water is also good for the skin and lifestlye diseases.
