East Teahouse Street
East Teahouse Street
Take a trip into the Edo period at the East Teahouse Street. These teahouses were founded during the Edo period, and have kept all the good history of the past. The buildings with lattice doors and stone pavements have brought up the nickname, Kimusuko. This popular tourism spot for both Japanese people and tourists became an Important Preservation District of Historic Buildings in 2001. Even today, the culture of "Ozashiki Asobi", or Tatami room activities, still exists as geishas perform dances and play instruments. Some of the teahouses are open to the public, so you can take a time slip into the Edo period. Immerse yourself in the oriental beauty of Japanese tea culture at the East Teahouse Street.
