West Teahouse Street
West Teahouse Street, located on the western Saigawa Coast of Kanazawa City, is one of the top 3 teahouse streets along with East Teahouse street and Kazuemachi Teahouse Street. The West Teahouse Street was built in 1820 after the official approval from the Shogunate Government to split the town. Similar to the East Teahouse Street, the west is also known as Kimusuko, for its unique lattic doors. This area continues to perform traditional activities. When the sun goes down, the geishas perform with instruments and dances. The townhouses have been renovated to cafes, so you can take a relaxing break after a long walk. At the West Teahouse Morgue, you can look around at the charms of the era, while surrounding yourself in an original teahouse. Also, works of the famous writer, Seijirou Shimada, are on display.
