Dogsledding
Dogsledding
Dogsledding is a mode of transportation used in extremely cold areas. It is said to have originated in Mongolia about 30,000 years ago. Until the snowmobile began being used commonly, dogsledding was the most common means of transportation in cold regions. Today, dogsledding is also a sport, and competitions are held throughout the world. In Japan, dogsledding can be seen and experienced in Hokkaido. The dogs used for dogsledding are typically breeds such as the Sakhalin husky, Siberian husky and the Alaskan malamute. The dogs pull the sled either in pairs or in a fan shape. The dogs run at a pace of around 15 kilometers an hour. You can hop on and see Hokkaido’s winter sights while the dogs pull your sled.
