Hakone Yumoto Onsen
Hakone Yumoto Onsen
Yumoto Onsen is located in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. The hot spring is the oldest in Hakone and first opened 1,200 years ago during the Nara period. It can be easily accessed from Tokyo in 85 minutes by taking the Odakyu Romancecar from Shinjuku Station. The easy access makes it a popular hot spring choice. Yumoto Onsen has a high output volume with 8,000 tons a day, or 100 liters per second being supplied. The spring water is a simple alkaline type and is said to help with sore muscles, poor circulation, and nerve pain. There are many historical landmarks like temples and stone pavements nearby because of its proximity to the Tokaido road during the flourishing Edo period. Finding accomodations is recommended for visitors planning to sight see and take their time in the baths. There are plenty of open hot spring facilities for visitors planning a day trip.
