Tofu and Yam Dishes Shika Jaya
Tofu and Yam Dishes Shika Jaya
"Tofu and Yam Dishes Shika Jaya" is located in Hakone-machi, Kanagawa Prefecture, a 5-minute walk from Hakone Yumoto Station. Shika Jaya, which was originally a hot spring inn, is now a renowned restaurant where you can taste exquisite tofu dishes while enjoying conversations with a friendly hostess. The building with traditional Japanese charm still has remnant of the inn from the time it was opened in 1938. There is a table with a sunken hearth in one corner of the restaurant, which is a heart-warming Japanese tradition. On the second floor, there are two types of reserved rooms, hall-style and private, and prices vary depending on the room (reservation needs to be made by phone two days in advance). The restaurant offers a wide variety of tofu dishes. The popular "Tofu Dim Sum" has "wasabi-miso chilled tofu," cold tofu topped with wasabi-miso dressing, "Soun Tofu," which is tofu heated in kelp soup and dressed with tororo, or pounded yam, seasoned with miso soup, and "Tofu Steak," which has a rich sauce that stimulates your appetite. Each tofu dish has its own unique soup that will keep you intrigued throughout your meal. They also serve the Okabe-zen Meal for vegans and vegetarians.
