Ohiradai Onsen
Ohiradai Onsen
Ohiradai Onsen can be found in Hakone, a town in the western region of Kanagawa prefecture. It is one of the popular 17 hot springs of Hakone. Located halfway up the side of Mt. Hakone, Ohiradai Onsen is surrounded by tranquil natural woodlands. There is an old village, dating back to the Warring States period(1467-1568 AD), that had once flourished as a production center of the traditional Hakone yosegi zaiku craft. The hot spring is a relatively new one discovered in 1949 by volunteers. The spring water is clear with low sodium levels, and can improve circulation, rheumatoid arthritis, nerve pain, and fatigue. There are ten hot spring inns in the town and day trips are also possible. To get to Ohiradai Onsen, take the Hakone Tozan Line train. The famous hydrangeas on either side of the rail tracks near Ohiradai Station bloom beautifully in June.
