    Shoin-jinja Shoin-jinja is located in the Hagi City, North of the Yamaguchi Prefecture. The name comes from Shoin Yoshida, who taught at the private school called "Shokason-juku", which educated many talented people including Takasugi Keisaku and Ito Hirofumi. The shrine was built in 1890, after the death of Matsuda Yoshida. The renovation of the Shokason-juku Shrine began in hopes to construct a Shrine that enshrines the spirit of Shoin, which was led by Hirofumi Ito and Yasushi Nomura, who are from Shokason-juku. It is now known as "the god of learning". The precincts include the “Shokason-juku Shrine” and the world cultural heritage called the “Yoshida Shoin (former residence in exile)”, where you can slip back in time and feel the impression of Shoin. If you go up the hill from the Shoin-jinja and walk for about 10 minutes, you will find the "Yoshida Shoin's birthplace" and the grave. The tombstone is engraved with “21 times a fierce warrior”, and you can feel Shoin's strong determination saying, “I will work hard 21 times and do everything with all my strength”. You can also overlook the Hagi town from this hill.
