Karuizawa Shaw Memorial Church Karuizawa Shaw Memorial Church is in Karuizawa-machi, eastern Nagano Prefecture. This church has Nagano Prefecture's longest history, and is located under a small tree covering just past the old Karuizawa Ginza Shopping Street. The church was founded by Alexander Croft Shaw, a Canadian missionary and Karuizawa pioneer, in 1895. The low-key wooden structure is a characteristic feature of this church, which that harmonically blends with the surrounding trees. It is open all year and provides a tranquil place for visitors. It is possible to speak with the pastor by making an advance appointment. In the church, classical and choir music concerts are held at irregular intervals.
